Harriet Road Native Garden Project

The Harriet Road Native Garden Project is a boulevard garden featuring drought-tolerant native plant species.

The aim of this project is to beautify our neighbourhood, provide an opportunity for people to learn about native flora, and to support local pollinators and birds.

Future plans include educational signage and a seed exchange.

Native plants have evolved specifically to grow in southern Vancouver Island’s unique microclimate. They are tolerant of our hot, dry summers and wet, mild winters.

Once established, they need very little care or watering. They thrive in poor soil, and they support our many native insect species.

Many of our native plants are threatened or in danger of becoming so. Some can only be found here on southern Vancouver Island.

By growing native plants in your garden and preserving their wild habitat, we can help reduce biodiversity loss and ensure future generations are able to enjoy the flora and fauna that makes our biome so unique.
